The EMHS Bands has been a Sweepstakes Band program in each of the past 9 years. This means that each
of the marching band, concert bands and jazz bands are rated as superior. The marching band is open to all EMHS students and
placement in the other performing groups is based on auditions. Excellence is always a sense of pride and
accomplishment for students, school and the community at large. The Bulldog Band members consistently demonstrate excellence
inside and outside the classroom as well as at every performance.
The Booster organization supports over 250 students who participate in the EMHS band programs each
year. These students represent a cross section of the community. And while the school does provide much of the in-classroom
needs, the behind-the-scenes work needed to execute the logistics of the band schedule is borne by the boosters. Every band
program is by definition about these performances. Organizing 250 students and their families requires communication and promotion
to be successful. Music students typically do better in school overall and score among the highest in math and science.
Few high school activities can blend the development skills with education and the arts for the number of students involved
in band. These skills include teamwork, organization, fitness, leadership, responsibility, performance, and creative
thinking.
